We plan to leave our home port of Chichester Harbour and turn right towards the Solent. We know this area very well and so aim to get westward as fast as possible. Some of our favourite places will form a good stopover such as Dartmouth which is unmissable.
It isn't sensible to create a fixed itinerary when planning a sailing trip in a small boat. The weather plays such an important role in the what you can do and when you can do it. When passage planning, its important to have several backup plans in case the conditions change while at sea. The voice of the shipping forecaster reading out "South westerly gale eight imminent" isn't nice to hear. We spend a lot of time reading different weather websites and looking at the met office pressure map, before committing to a trip. So its all up for discussion!
We would like to visit Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel, some ports and coves in Wales,- Solva if possible.
The Isle of Man, some bits of Scotland, and the Hebrides. I have a yearning to see St Kilda, but as its a fair hop offshore, this might be in someone else's boat! We fancy the Caledonian Canal and then back down the other side...
More thought needed on this.
We can't see beyond the next couple of weeks right now!
